Our Shield Products are highly developed, unique, patent pendinged fluoropolymer coatings that are formulated to work with a variety of industrial, commercial, marine, aerospace, oilfield, and residential applications. It is a high performance fluoropolymer resin that offers superior weathering ability plus the choice of ambient or high temperature curing. Our coatings are flexible, extremely hard and durable, extending the life and the appearance of surfaces for up to 20-30 years.
Our products are the best on the market surpassing acrylics, epoxies, polyurethanes, and rubberized products. We are backed by a 20 year warranty providing you the confidence that our products perform completely as specified. Our coatings are environmentally safe or “Green” with 0-VOC’s. They are non-toxic, non-leaching, inert, approved and tested by the USDA. Our heat shield coating with reflective ceramic microspheres provides a built-in thermal barrier against summer heat and winter cold, substantially reducing heating and cooling costs. Our coatings will not allow mold, mildew, or moss to grow. They prevent deterioration and destruction caused by rusting, corrosion, staining and UV degradation.

SuperShield:The Last Protective Coating You Will Ever Need!
Our unique product line is based on SuperShield; a fluoropolymer resin engineered to provide superior weatherability and maximum chemical resistance for even the harshest environments. Available as a clear finish or it can be tinted or pigmented to match any color. It is available in high gloss all the way to matte by degree. The finish can be brushed, rolled, sprayed, dipped or applied electrostatically.
Extensive field and laboratory testing results show SuperShield has 90% gloss retention with no peeling, discoloring or chalking for up to 20-30 years. This may be the last coating you will ever need.
SuperShield Delivers!
Super Shield will enhance and bring out the natural color of the substrate (material it is applied to) with a high gloss that makes it look wet. It enhances the natural colors and even brings back faded colors. It comes clear high gloss, semi-gloss, gloss, satin, and matte. It can be translucent tinted or solid colored. The factory will match your color sample.

What is SuperShield?
Shield Products developed and commercialized SuperShield in 1992 as the first solvent-soluble fluoropolymer for coatings that can be cured under room temperature conditions.
Shield Products coatings maintain excellent appearances (gloss, color) of buildings and other structures for over 20 years, and also protects steel and concrete from sunshine, wind, rain and corrosion. Therefore, Shield Products coatings reduce the total maintenance cost such as repainting or cleaning. Recently, Shield Products has developed environmentally friendly Zero VOC and Zero VOC water-based grades that save energy.

SuperShield and PFEVE Structure
High durability of the fluoropolymer is based on its C-F bond energy. The C-F bond energy is much larger than the energy of UV rays in sunlight. The C-F bond is capable to strengthen neighbor C-C main chain bond.
*The graphics on the left: The size of a sphere reflects the size of bond energy.
*The graphics on the right: The adult and child figures show each monomer.

Fluoroethylene/vinyl ether copolymer (FEVE) comprises alternating sequence of fluoroethylene and several specific vinyl ether units and it is completely amorphous.
This alternating sequence is responsible for the extremely high weather resistance of the resultant paint finishes. The chemically stable fluoroethylene unit protects the neighbor vinyl ether unit, which can be easily attacked by UV rays and other corrosive factors.

The weatherability of PVdF itself is high; on the other hand, it is necessary to add acrylic resin in order to formulate PVdF into coatings.
Because acrylic resin is easily attacked by UV rays, the amount of acrylic resin added to PVdF resin is very important.
Gloss Retention of SuperShield

Inside of spotted area of the film was shot and upside is surface.
The picture shows that the acrylic melamine film was found to be porous, and thicker than the initial film, about 34µm. On the contrary, there were no significant changes on SuperShield film.

Aerospace (05/03/2010)
Petersburg, MI; SYS-TEC Corporation and NASA have completed a testing program where 2D Datamatrix marked samples, coated with Shield Products Superior Shield, were flown into space and affixed to the International Space Station. The test program was called MISSE 6.
The marks were made using various marking processes on small, round aluminum discs. Two of each mark were made, one for flight, and one for a test standard. All marks were graded using an electronic verification system so comparisons could be made post flight. The discs were then placed in a Passive Experiment Container (PEC) that was flown into space on space shuttle orbiter Endeavour on March 11, 2008. These cases were attached to the outside of the International Space Station. These marks were left exposed to the harsh environments of space for 18 months. Atomic oxygen, solar UV radiation, and spatial impact are just some of the conditions that these marks were exposed to. The marked samples were retrieved by space shuttle Discovery and brought back to Earth on September 11, 2009. They were then inspected for damage or deterioration and graded using the same verification equipment.
Upon inspection, all marks that were coated with Superior Shield looked just as they had pre-flight. They received the same grades as they had initially. Comparable marks that were not coated were unreadable or faded to a point where you couldn’t see the mark anymore. “Superior Shield exceeded our expectations. It is now our standard product for all government and commercial clear coat applications,” says Richard Perron, President of SYS-TEC.

Take a look at the photos below. One metal plate was uncoated and one coated with Super Shield. They were then allowed to hang in the water. The plate coated with Super Shield has attacked and destroyed all manner of microbes including bacteria, virus, fungus, algae, and barnacles because it is antimicrobial. It actually destroys microbes and the byproducts are CO2 and water. It needs just a small amount of any kind of light to do this.
